Hasbro, publisher of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), has banned artists from using artificial intelligence (AI) when creating characters, reports Associated Press (AP).
The reason for the ban was the work of one of the artists who collaborated for about ten years with D&D Beyond, which releases physical and digital content for Dungeons & Dragons.
“Today we learned that the artist used AI to create the artwork for one of the characters for the release of the upcoming book… We have been working with this artist since 2014… And despite the fact that we were not aware of the artist’s decision to use AI in the creation of the aforementioned character, we discussed this with him, and he will no longer use AI when working on fantasy characters,” D&D Beyond said in a statement to X.
The company also said it would review its own rules for collaborating with artists to include a ban on the use of AI.
