The price of gold on the Comex exchange has updated its historical record – Kommersant

The price of gold during trading on the Comex exchange (a division of the New York Mercantile Exchange) today, March 6, rose to a historical high, exceeding $2,153 per troy ounce. As of 17:34 Moscow time, the price of April gold futures was $2153.7 per troy ounce (+0.91%). A troy ounce is approximately equal to 31 grams.

The previous historical record was installed the day before, March 5th. Gold prices rose 1.3% to $2,141.79 an ounce. Prior to this, the record was set on December 4, 2023 and amounted to $2,135.39.

Bloomberg reported that traders’ interest in gold arose due to speculation that the US Federal Reserve could move to lower the key interest rate. Also, investing in gold began to be seen as a way to preserve one’s assets, including due to geopolitical risks.

According to preliminary estimates by the World Gold Council, which drew attention on March 5 Interfax, the world’s central banks purchased 39 tons of gold for gold and foreign exchange reserves in January. This figure doubled compared to December 2023 and makes January the eighth month of growth.
