Employees of the Picasso Museum in Malaga have publicly demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the salary and schedule several times. They complain that wages have not been raised for 11 years, on the contrary, they have decreased by 3-5%, while prices are still rising. They demand to raise salaries to 80 thousand euros per year and reduce the number of working hours to 1710 per year. The concessions proposed by the museum management have not yet satisfied the employees. The local trade union conducted a survey and found out that in other cultural institutions in Spain, the salary is much higher. Now the employees of the Picasso Museum in Magala are even more determined to stand up for their rights.
Previous pickets lasted for several hours, but resulted in significant inconvenience for tourists and losses for the museum. The upcoming strike will go on for five days, and it is possible that it will stretch for a period longer than announced. This means that the protest will paralyze the work of the museum for at least a week and may derail a big event. Exhibits from various museums will be brought to the Echo of Picasso exhibition, and these are insurance, documents, installation and other nuances prescribed in the project agreement.
By the way, past protests were also planned by museum staff for the opening of an exhibition or the arrival of a large number of tourists on cruise ships who stop in Malaga largely to see the hometown of the world-famous artist. Museum workers went out to protest in masks with images from Picasso’s paintings. So their action resembled a performance. However, it is extremely unpleasant for the management of the museum and the city. Now they are negotiating with the protesters.
