The owner of Wildberries Bakalchuk spoke about cooperation with Russian Post

The founder of Wildberries, Tatyana Bakalchuk, commented on the work of the marketplace with Russian Post. According to her, Wildberries and other sites have created a “road map” of what services and for what amount they plan to order from the state-owned company.

“The main thing here is that the Post Office itself does not let us down and fulfills its obligations. Because we are vitally interested in this working,” Ms. Bakalchuk said in an interview with RBC.

According to Tatyana Bakalchuk, Wildberries’ relationship with Russian Post should be built on partnership and mutually beneficial terms. “I don’t know of examples where non-market interaction tools would take into account the interests of all parties; ultimately, not only marketplaces, but also sellers and consumers would suffer from an infrastructure tax,” she said.

Ms. Bakalchuk noted that the marketplace is considering cooperation with the state-owned company in terms of pick-up points and delivery routes. “This is already a working scheme – interaction between countries takes place through the Post Office, we are now transporting goods from some countries through them, and this comes out faster. We also have plans for a crossboard from China, and we hope that if the Post office fulfills its obligations, then everything will be fine,” she said.

At the end of September, the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT) sent letter addressed to the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Alexander Khinshtein. In the letter, AKIT offered to help increase the intensity of use of the Russian Post infrastructure through the purchase of company services. The address to Mr. Khinshtein discussed the use of infrastructure in the domestic market, in international shipments and other types of logistics. AKIT also pointed out the possibility of partnership in the field of partial issuance and payment of orders at Russian Post offices, acceptance and return of funds, as well as fitting.

On September 25, at a meeting of the Federation Council, Speaker of the Chamber Valentina Matvienko stated, that Russian Post has a growing financial hole and “the situation urgently needs to be corrected.” In response to Ms. Matvienko’s statement, the General Director of Russian Post explained, that the situation at the beginning of 2023 was indeed “extremely difficult.” At the same time, he noted that in six months the organization managed to reduce operating losses by almost three times. According to Russian Post’s RAS reporting, as of June 30, the company’s loss for January-June amounted to 6.6 billion rubles. For the same period in 2022, this figure was 17.7 billion rubles.
