The legendary clock on the facade of the Obraztsov Puppet Theater will be restored for the first time in 53 years. Recently, the structure was removed from the building and sent to the workshop.
As MK managed to find out, the famous clock of the Obraztsov Theater was removed from the facade for the final stage of design and research work. After their completion, they will return to their rightful place.
On the dial of the unique watch there are 12 houses in which dolls live: Donkey, Owl, Cat, Piglet, Wolf, Rooster, etc. Every day at noon, the doors of the houses open, and each hero welcomes the audience, who have been coming to the building on Sadovo for more than half a century -Self-flowing by this time.
While the clock is being restored, the employees have prepared a program that will help guests not to forget about the symbol of the theater. Throughout the year, the theater will tell about the legends and stories associated with the clock. Copies of dolls, keepers of each hour, will also remain with the audience. Every month a new sentry will take over and tell stories about himself, about the watch, about the theater, about Sergei Obraztsov. According to the plan, the clock should return to the facade at the end of 2024.
Help “MK”. The legendary puppet clock, which has become a symbol of the theater and a cultural artifact of the city, was invented by Sergei Obraztsov. The idea of their creation was born after the first foreign Czech-Polish tour in 1948-1949, when the theater staff enthusiastically examined the famous old Prague chimes on the Old Town Hall.
The idea was realized only after 20 years. The author of the watch mechanism was Veniamin Kalmanson, a talented self-taught designer. The author began to assemble the mechanism a year before the official opening of the new theater building on Samoteka. The appearance of the clock – puppet figures, houses, a cockerel – is the work of sculptors Pavel Shimes and Dmitry Shakhovsky.
Interestingly, the rooster’s voice is real, and belongs to Obraztsov’s beloved rooster, who lived in his dacha in the company of chickens. The employees of the sound design department specially went to the dacha to Sergey Vladimirovich and recorded the crowing of his pet.
