The Moscow City Court approved a turnover fine for Google of 4.6 billion rubles – Kommersant

The Moscow City Court recognized the legal recovery of 4.6 billion rubles from Google. for the systematic failure to remove false information about the military operation in Ukraine, as well as information prohibited in the Russian Federation. The court did not satisfy the company’s appeal, the court’s press service told TASS.

According to the case materials, the reason for it served several YouTube videos that talked about the losses of the Russian army, civilian casualties and plans to use nuclear weapons. Also, these videos allegedly contained content related to the promotion of non-traditional sexual relationships and extremist materials.

This is the third fine imposed by Google in the Russian Federation for failure to remove content. The amount of the fine is set by the court; it can range from 1/20 to 1/10 of annual revenue. In December 2021, Google was fined 7.2 billion rubles, and in July 2022 – another 21.07 billion rubles. In the same year, the Russian division of Google went to court to declare it bankrupt. The arbitration court introduced initial bankruptcy proceedings against Google LLC. In January 2024 reportedthat the bailiffs fully recovered two turnover fines in the amount of 29 billion rubles from Google.
