The Ministry of Transport ruled out an abnormally high increase in airfare this year

There are no grounds for a 40% increase in air ticket prices; there is no abnormal jump in prices for flights within the country. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Transport, transmits TASS.

“Previously published information in the press about a possible increase in prices for flights up to 40% has no basis,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Transport also recalled that the cost of tickets in the summer season traditionally increases, which makes it possible to compensate for lost income in other months of the year, while there were no abnormally high prices for flights. According to the Ministry of Transport, from the beginning of the year to May, the cost of tickets for domestic air transportation increased by 6.2% year-on-year, or by 420 rubles.

In addition, the department emphasized that airlines are not interested in an unreasonable increase in ticket prices, as this could lead to a drop in demand.

Earlier July 13 in an interview RBC Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vnukovo Airport Vitaly Vantsev toldthat the increase in prices for international flights this year could be up to 40%, and for domestic flights – 15-20%. According to him, this is due to the increased maintenance costs of airlines. He recalled that the cost of tickets is reflected in the increase in prices for spare parts. “We have spare parts warehouses that allow us to exist more or less normally for about a year, and then they need to be replenished. But the conditions for their replenishment have changed a lot,” added Vantsev.

At the end of March, Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev predicted the volume of passenger traffic of Russian airlines for the whole of 2023 at the level of 101 million passengers. Of these, 81.9 million should come to domestic passenger traffic, that is, the figure is expected to grow by 5.4% compared to 2022, but will decrease by 6.4% compared to 2021.
