The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported on the complete import substitution of aluminum cans

In Russia, within a year, it was possible to completely replace the production of aluminum cans with imports, said Roman Chekushov, head of the department of international cooperation and foreign trade licensing of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

“We have substituted imports by 100% over the year. Now all the aluminum cans on the shelves are now our production,” the official said on air. Radio Sputnik.

According to Mr. Chekushov, the need for import substitution in this area arose due to the strong dependence on aluminum banks from the United States. He clarified that at the beginning of 2022, about 70% of all aluminum cans in Russia were American-made. However, the situation was corrected within a year, the head of the department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade explained.

In 2022, after the start of the military operation in Ukraine, a major American manufacturer Ball Corporation decided to leave the Russian market. The company’s assets in Russia were sold to Arnest Group, the deal amounted to $530 million. In Russia, Ball owned three plants for the production of aluminum cans – in the Moscow, Leningrad and Chelyabinsk regions.
