The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to include smartphones, landline phones and laptops in the second stage of the experiment on labeling certain types of radio-electronic products. The experiment on labeling radio-electronic products started in Russia on December 1, 2023. The decision to conduct the experiment was made by the Russian government, and the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies acted as the labeling operator. It is divided into three stages. The approved completion date for the experiment is February 28, 2025. The draft resolution of the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposes to extend it until August 31, 2025.
Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Vasily Shpak, quoted by TASS, noted that the labeling of electronic products is aimed at protecting consumers from purchasing counterfeits. “Labelling of consumer electronics is designed to protect Russian citizens from buying counterfeits, as well as to exclude manufacturers from government procurement who only pretend to produce goods in Russia. This will provide a serious incentive for the development of domestic production of equipment,” said Mr. Shpak.
The department emphasized that the experiment on labeling radio-electronic products will not affect its cost, since equipment and labeling codes are provided to manufacturers free of charge during the experiment.
Sources in the government and in the electronics market told Kommersant back in December 2023 that the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Digital Development are discussing the prospect of introducing labeling for laptops, tablets and smartphones.
