This will include, among other things, the licensing of such products, the definition of requirements for production and disposal in the event that methanol-containing liquids become illegal. The department proposed lifting the moratorium on inspections of producers and sellers of alcohol and spirits.

Earlier, Vedomosti wrote that with the proposal to install the MRC for cider to Russian President Vladimir Putin applied The National Association of Traditional Cider Producers, as well as other market participants that make similar products from natural berries and fruits. According to Alexei Nebolsin, the founder of the Yablochny Spas cider factory, the MRC is needed to create a barrier from unscrupulous producers.

Reports of mass poisonings with surrogate cider began to arrive from the Ulyanovsk region on June 5th. Cases of poisoning were recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Samara and Kurgan regions, as well as in Udmurtia and Chuvashia. As a result of the incident, according to the Ministry of Health on June 17, 36 people died, including one child, over 100 were hospitalized. Later, on June 19, the Ministry of Health of the Samara Region reported that the death toll in the region has grown from 10 to 12.

The reason was alcohol brand “Mr. Cider”, which was produced in the Samara region. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that in the course of a chemical forensic examination, impurities of methanol and ethyl butyrate were detected in the seized cider in proportions dangerous to humans. According to the results of toxicological studies, methanol was found in the blood of the victims.
