The Ministry of Finance spoke out against tax barriers when companies return to Russia

The Ministry of Finance opposes additional taxes for foreign companies returning to Russia. This was stated by the director of the financial policy department of the Ministry of Finance Ivan Chebeskov during the Digital Finance: New Economic Reality forum.

“They sold their business. If they return, then it will be necessary to purchase assets here at market value, they do not receive these assets for free. There is no additional tax here,” he said (quote according to TASS).

Chebeskov noted that the Russian authorities, on the contrary, welcome investors who want to enter the Russian market.

On September 4, State Duma deputy Sultan Khamzaev called for the introduction of a “tax for returning to the market” for foreign companies that left the Russian Federation, wrote “RIA News”. “I believe that those companies that once exchanged their consumer customers for politics, put their employees at risk, should not return to our country without additional financial obligations,” he explained.

Against the backdrop of the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine and the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions, many Western brands left the Russian market.
