The Ministry of Economics will discuss the increase in duties on imported wine

The Commission for Customs Tariff Regulation under the Ministry of Economic Development is considering an increase in import duties on imported wine. About it declared Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Sazanov in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“The option of increasing duties is being considered. Whether they will be increased and by how much – these issues are still being discussed,” he said.
The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are also participating in the discussion, the official added. Now the size of import duties is 12.5%.
Answering a question about the prospects for a bill on an experiment on the online sale of wine, Sazanov stressed that the issue is being discussed in the State Duma, but the final decision on the experiment has not yet been made.
“Many participants in this discussion believe that the issue requires further elaboration. At the same time, the proposals from parliamentarians sound different and directly opposite,” he noted.
So, some deputies oppose the experiment, while others believe that it is necessary to include other operators in it, except for the Russian Post, the official explained.
“It is possible that they will decide not to conduct the experiment at all. But I still hope that a compromise solution will be found,” summed up Sazanov.
Initially, the project for the remote sale of alcohol was supposed to take place from June to December 2021 in the Moscow region and Mordovia, but later, at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the geography was expanded, and the launch itself was postponed.
Then it was reported that the experiment will start in April 2022 in Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Leningrad and Nizhny Novgorod regions, and in September last year, the General Director of Russian Post, Maxim Akimov, announced that it would take place in April 2023. According to the current bill, the test sale of wine will last from November 2023 to July 31, 2026.
