Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia Alexander Shoitov supported the idea of a voluntary audit of the level of security of personal data operators. He announced this at a strategic session of the Big Data Association (BDA), RIA Novosti reports.
The author of the initiative, director for interaction with government bodies of the Solar Group (part of Rostelecom), Mikhail Adonyev, said during the session that the company, together with the ABD, has developed audit methods that will allow us to conclude that the operator is “invested” enough to ensure security.
According to the agency, ABD President Anna Serebryanikova noted during the event that a discussion is currently underway on finalizing the initiative. She expressed the hope that the audit methodology document would be adopted as an additional voluntary standard. The fact that the company conducted a voluntary security assessment can be considered as a mitigating circumstance in the issue of applying liability under the law on turnover fines for data leakage, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the words of Ms. Serebryanikova.
