Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova said that the Ministry of Culture did not receive applications for the issuance of rental certificates for the films “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”.

“We didn’t apply for rental licenses, I can only speak from this point of view,” said Ms. Lyubimova TASS.

Barbie is owned by American Warner Bros., Oppenheimer is owned by Universal Pictures. Both companies left Russia in 2022 due to the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine. Motion pictures cannot be released in Russia in the official box office.

Both films were released worldwide on the same day – July 20. For three weeks “Barbie” collected grossing over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the first film directed by a woman to do so. Oppenheimer’s collection for the same period amounted to $552 million. Although both films were not released in Russia, they were published on torrents, albeit in “screen” quality. As Kommersant wrote, during the peak period, the number of downloads and distributions of the Barbie film reached 8,000, while that of Oppenheimer reached 4,000.

More details – in the material “Kommersant” “Barbic Force”.
