The Michelin Guide will develop a rating of the best hotels called Clef Michelin (“Michelin Key”), according to its website. The first list is planned to be presented in the first half of 2024.

The guide team will evaluate more than 5 thousand hotels and accommodation facilities in 120 countries. An annual ceremony will be held to announce the best hotels. To carry out the assessment, Michelin inspectors will anonymously visit the site one or more times.

They will be assessed based on five criteria:

  • the location itself;
  • architecture and interior design;
  • level of service and comfort;
  • “unusuality, reflecting the individuality of the establishment, its unique character”;
  • correspondence between price and quality.

Michelin International Director Gwendal Poullenec explained that the rating will not include resort hotels where the guest is “isolated from the city.” “But the price range will be wide: from less than a hundred euros to several thousand,” he told the newspaper Le Figaro.

The Michelin gastronomic guide has been produced since 1900 and is one of the most authoritative in the world. Establishments can receive a rating from one to three stars. In March 2022, the Michelin Guide frozen projects in Russia. Because of this, Moscow restaurants are Michelin can not confirm status in 2023.
