Michelin will begin publishing a guide not only for restaurants, but also for hotels in 2024. The French company will mark hotels worthy of visiting not with stars, as is the case with restaurants, but with keys.
“The Michelin Key is a clear and reliable guide for travelers. Just as the Michelin Star recognizes those restaurants that are at the peak of their excellence, the Michelin Key recognizes the most exceptional hotels around the world. It is also a recognition of the teamwork of dedicated hospitality professionals,” according to statement company words of the international director of the Michelin guide Gwendal Poulleneck.
The guide’s authors will award keys based on five criteria: local character, individuality, excellence in architecture and interior design, first-class service and comfort, and good value for money.
The creation of the Michelin Hotel Guide was made possible by the French company’s purchase of the boutique and luxury hotel booking site Tablet Hotels five years ago. It is its database and interface that have now appeared in the corresponding section of the Michelin guide website.
The first keys will be awarded at the beginning of 2024. In total, the company’s specialists will study the work of about 5.3 thousand hotels from 120 countries.
