The media learned about the investigation into the Russian division of Auchan in France

The French Financial Prosecutor’s Office suspects the Russian division of the French company Auchan of corruption, an investigation into this case was launched back in March 2020, informs AFP citing a knowledgeable source.
The investigation is ongoing on several episodes, including corruption of a foreign official, corruption of an individual, an attempt to cover up these crimes and complicity in their commission. The source did not provide additional details.
In 2020, searches took place in the company, the central office for combating corruption, financial and tax offenses (Oclciff) of France interrogated several former and current employees of the Russian division of Auchan. The company itself told the agency that the investigation is connected only with the Russian “daughter”, and that it provides full support to the investigation.
Auchan continues to operate in Russia despite sanctions and pressure to stay in the country. Last March, Auchan CEO Yves Claude said leaving Russia would be humanly unimaginable. He noted that Auchan has been present in Russia for 20 years, the company employs 30,000 people.
