G7 ministers are ready to develop international standards for the use of AI – Kommersant

G7 Ministers Agree to Promote Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence Amid Risks of Abuse and Privacy Concerns Kyodo. A two-day meeting of the heads of trade and digital departments of the G7 member states is currently taking place in Japan.

The agency notes that the discussion took place due to the fact that the rapid pace of development of AI has revealed the need for the development of international standards for the application of relevant technologies. As an example, Kyodo cites the success of US ChatGPT, which reached 100 million users in less than three months from launch.

“Given that generative artificial intelligence technologies are becoming more and more visible, we recognize the need to assess the potential and risks of using these technologies in the near future,” the participants in the discussion declared at the end of the meeting.

They also approved an action plan to “create an open and enabling environment for AI innovation” and develop international standards for systems management, taking into account the assessment of all associated risks.

According to Kyodo, the joint statement mentions five principles that policy makers should be guided by when using any new technology. The rule of law, democracy, human rights and innovation are stipulated, as well as the development of “due process of law”.

On March 30, over 1,000 leading representatives of the IT industry published an open letter in which they announced the need to suspend the training of artificial intelligence systems for six months due to the need to develop security protocols for working with these tools.
