Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin could not yet say anything about the fact that the subsidiary of Rosselkhozbank could be connected to the SWIFT international transfer system to extend the grain deal.
“No, so far we have nothing to report on the implementation of that part of the agreements that concerned the Russian side,” said Mr. Peskov.
Dmitry Peskov was also asked if there is any hope in the Kremlin for successful negotiations in the future. “So far we state that some of the agreements are still not fulfilled,” he said in response. Mr. Peskov noted that there is still time before the expiration of the grain deal, but, according to him, “there are not many hopes.”
In May, Russia extended the grain deal concluded in the summer of 2022 with Ukraine with the participation of the UN and Turkey. The agreement is valid until July 17. To further extend the deal, Russia requires Rosselkhozbank to be reconnected to the SWIFT international payment system. The Kremlin said that they see no prerequisites for extending the deal.
The day before, the Financial Times, citing sources reportedthat Moscow offered to allow the sanctioned Russian Agricultural Bank to create a “daughter” that can be connected to SWIFT to pay for grain exports.
