The Federal Air Transport Agency expects the restoration of passenger traffic to pre-pandemic levels

The passenger traffic of Russian airlines may return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of this year. This was announced by the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neradko during a round table on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of civil aviation in Russia.
“We expect that by the end of the current year, these figures will [пассажиропоток авиакомпаний РФ] can return to the pre-sanction level,” he said (cit. according to TASS).
Neradko also noted that in the first five months, passenger traffic increased by 21% compared to the same period in 2022. In addition, the same number of passengers were transported in May 2023 as in May 2021.
At the end of March, Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev predicted the volume of passenger traffic of Russian airlines for the whole of 2023 at the level of 101 million passengers. Of these, 81.9 million should come to domestic passenger traffic, that is, the figure is expected to grow by 5.4% compared to 2022, but will decrease by 6.4% compared to 2021.
The fact that the number of passengers carried in 2023 will depend directly on how much subsidies airlines receive, previously spoke experts interviewed by Vedomosti. In 2022, Russian airlines transported a total of 95 million people (-14% by 2021).
