Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the decision of the countries participating in the OPEC + agreement to reduce oil production is not a “victory for Russia”, but a “victory of common sense”.
“In general, the fact that the president managed to establish mutually respectful relations (with Saudi Arabia and the UAE is “b”), which are based on mutual benefit, on mutual trust, of course, this helps to discuss the most critical moments. I am not inclined to say that this is some kind of our victory. No. This is a victory for common sense,” said Dmitry Peskov in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin.
Mr. Peskov also said that the US is “trying to manipulate its oil reserves”, but, in his words, “such a game will not lead to anything good.” He added that OPEC + is balancing “the mayhem that the Americans are doing.”
Dmitry Peskov also said in an interview that the presidents of Russia and Kyrgyzstan, Vladimir Putin and Sadyr Japarov, will hold talks in Astana as part of the CIS summit, a meeting on interaction and confidence-building measures in Asia (CICA) and a meeting of heads of state in the Russia-Central Asia format, which will be held October 12-14.
OPEC+ countries this week agreed cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day, the biggest cut since 2020. US President Joe Biden named the solution is shortsighted. The Kremlin stated that the reduction was aimed at maintaining stability in the markets.
