The Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce (IRCC) wants to create a system that will allow Russian companies to buy Italian goods that are allowed to be imported into the Russian Federation, said the head of the IRCC, Ferdinando Pelazzo. This system will involve payment in rubles, and he took several months to agree on it.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Mr. Pelazzo said that there are difficulties with the exchange of goods between Italy and Russia, even for those goods that are not subject to sanctions. “We want to create a system that will allow the Russian buyer to pay us in rubles, and we could then transfer this money to Italy from our account in a third country,” the head of the IRTP specified.
According to him, it is necessary to negotiate with banks, find a third country and establish relations with its central bank. “There are questions that require a couple of months. These are negotiations with banks… I think that the whole process will take several months,” added Ferdinando Pelazzo.
At the end of June the EU introduced The 11th package of sanctions against Russia, aimed at circumventing previously imposed restrictions. As of the beginning of July, the volume of Russian assets blocked in Europe has reached €207 billion Italian authorities spokewhich froze the assets of citizens of Russia and Belarus for € 2 billion.
