The European Union (EU) needs to limit the cost of buying Russian gas at €80 per MWh, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said. This initiative will be discussed today, September 9, at a meeting of EU energy ministers.

“If Putin has raised the gas price to more than €270 per MWh, it’s time to set a ceiling that says you can’t exceed €80,” Di Maio told reporters during a trip to Naples, where he will present a report on foreign Italian trade (quote from RIA Novosti).

Previously, Italy offered to introduce a maximum price for gas from the Russian Federation of €90 per MWh, but, according to Bloomberg, some EU countries reacted skeptical about this. 7 September European Commission (EC) announced about the intention to introduce a price ceiling for Russian gas. Politico reportedthat ek wants to install price at the level of €50 per 1 MWh. President Vladimir Putin named this idea is “nonsense”.
