The influx of funds into mutual funds is breaking records – Kommersant

Over the nine months of 2023, the value of mutual fund assets increased by a record 2.8 trillion rubles, said Elena Chasovskikh, development director of Portfolio Investments Management LLC, at the conference “Results of the year. Commercial real estate”, organized by Kommersant. According to her, the bulk of the influx of funds – 90% – was provided by closed-end mutual investment funds (closed mutual investment funds).
At the same time, since the beginning of the year, the value of assets of closed-end mutual funds for qualified investors has increased by 2.2 trillion rubles, breaking the record of 2021, when the annual increase in assets amounted to 1.7 trillion rubles.
Ms. Chasovskikh also added that the total number of closed-end mutual funds in 2023 increased by 268, reaching 2,431; combined funds made up the majority of the market. “Combined funds allow you to invest not only in real estate, but also in development projects, reconstruction projects and so on. Their number increased by 290, while there was some decline in other categories of funds. It is also worth noting that for the first time, an increase in the number of real estate funds for unqualified investors has been recorded, despite the opposite trend in recent years,” the expert said.
The number of closed-end mutual fund shareholders, especially among unqualified investors, has also increased significantly. At the end of the third quarter, according to the Bank of Russia, their number reached 465 thousand, and shareholders from among qualified investors – 30 thousand. Moreover, 99% of shareholders of closed mutual funds are individuals.
As Kommersant previously wrote, the Russian collective investment market recorded a record influx of funds. Based on the results of the third quarter of 2023, attractions to mutual investment funds amounted to almost 770 billion rubles. Among the leaders in attraction were closed-end mutual funds aimed at wealthy private investors.
