The head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, stood up for directors Stepan Burnashev and Dmitry Shadrin and said that they could not make a movie about nationalism and non-traditional values. He spoke about this during the “Direct Line”.
“I, like any Yakutian, will be a little biased, but, firstly, I love both of these films (“Aita” directed by Stepan Burnashev and “The Candidate” directed by Dmitry Shadrin.— “Ъ”) looked. Secondly, I know both Dmitry Shadrin and Stepan Burnashev very well. I know that they are both patriots; in principle, they are not capable of making any films about non-traditional values or nationalism,” said Mr. Nikolaev (quoted from TASS).
The head of Yakutia also said that he spoke with the directors on the phone. “You just need to be, you know, somewhat more focused, understand where they can get caught, what mistakes they make, and do everything to avoid making them, and move forward. He said that your native republic is always with you, we will not abandon you, our own, we will support you,” he added.
At the request of Roskomnadzor on September 19 from rental of Russian online cinemas removed the highest-grossing Yakut film “Aita” – the department discovered manifestations of nationalism in it. The film “The Candidate” did not receive a distribution certificate from the Ministry of Culture due to LGBT propaganda.
