EU countries “sooner rather than later” will impose a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). Teresa Ribera, Minister of Energy of Spain, stated this.
“It will happen sooner rather than later. If we want to be consistent, we must say that we will not accept Russian LNG,” Ms. Ribera said in an interview. Reuters. She added that over time it will be easier for the EU to move away from Russian LNG.
According to Reuters, in March, Teresa Ribera sent a letter to LNG importers and major operators asking them not to enter into new energy supply contracts with Russian suppliers after the old ones expired. Earlier, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson made a similar request.
