Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov reacted to complaints from telecom operators and tower infrastructure operators about a significant increase in the cost of connecting communication facilities to power grids. He pointed out that, despite the increase in connection tariffs, they “still remain preferential”, and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) should check the costs of operators.

“I would like to invite the FAS to see at what price they (communication operators.— “b”) buy equipment, fiber optic communication lines, why they have expensive towers, why they choose the location of base stations illiterately. We need to deal with this. But, in general, connection tariffs have increased, but they remain preferential, they are economically unjustified,” the minister said (quoted by TASS).

According to Nikolai Shulginov, the cost of energy in Russia is “probably the most affordable in the world.” “And against this background, such pearls begin that are published in the open press,” he added.

Earlier, the largest telecom operators, in particular VimpelCom, MegaFon and MTS, turned to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev and pointed to an increase in costs when connecting their facilities to power grids due to the abolition of preferential technological connection. In a letter that I read RBC, it was noted that the cost of connecting base stations, which previously amounted to 30–50 thousand rubles, “has grown significantly”. The cost of connecting households to the Internet increased 100 times, up to 50-60 thousand rubles, operators drew attention.

From July 1, 2022, the government has canceled the preferential rate of 550 rubles. for the connection of objects with a capacity of up to 15 kW and set a minimum threshold for a preferential rate for 1 kW. Before the changes were made, operators paid 550 rubles. for all 15 kW, and since July last year, the consumption has increased to 3 thousand rubles. for every kilowatt.
