Founder of GCRusagro» Vadim Moshkovich plans to invest in a new major project in the field of grain exports, which will be managed by Kirill Podolsky, founder of the Valars Group holding, writes Kommersant, citing sources.

Moshkovich himself announced the search for a team in a new company that “will specialize in the export of grain and oilseeds”, one of its offices will be located in Taganrog. He wrote about this on Facebook (owned by Meta, whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation).

According to one of the sources of the newspaper, the company can start exporting Rusagro products in the first place. The group’s grain crop in 2022 increased by 23% and amounted to 1.08 million tons, wheat accounted for 858,000 tons. 673,000 tons of own wheat and 144,000 tons of third-party crops were supplied to the market. At the same time, Rusagro has already begun to develop grain exports by selling several ships with wheat to Iran, the newspaper notes.

“The Union of Grain Exporters can only welcome the emergence of new players, this increases competition in the sector,” commented Eduard Zernin, chairman of the union’s board, on this information. According to him, the level of competition and the requirements for the professionalism of the team remain extremely high, despite the departure from the Russian Federation to the departure of some foreign traders.

Director of Sovecon Andrey Sizov, in turn, noted the high profitability of grain exports now, warning about the risks of reducing grain production due to export duties that negatively affect farmers’ incomes.

On March 29, it became known that from July 1, the Russian division of the American largest grain supplier Cargill will also stop export of products from Russia. On March 30, the Ministry of Agriculture reported that got notification from Viterra on the termination of export activities in Russia from July 1. On April 3, it became known about termination export of Russian grain from the same date and by trader Louis Dreyfus.

After these reports, the Ministry of Agriculture assured that the decision of foreign traders would not affect the export of Russian grain, all transshipment capacities would be preserved and continue to operate as usual. The ministry also noted that the Russian market is open to conscientious foreign companies whose work is aimed at developing the export opportunities of the domestic agro-industrial complex.

On April 19, Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with members of the government announced that the grain harvest in Russia, taking into account new regions, according to the results of this year will be about 123 million tons. According to Rosstat, the harvest of grain and leguminous crops in 2022 in the Russian Federation made up a record 157.6 million tons, which is 29.9% more than in 2021 (121.4 million tons). In 2020, Russian farmers harvested 133.5 million tons of grain.
