The Ministry of Digital Development is investigating whether Microsoft really intends to refuse to renew subscriptions to corporate clients in the Russian Federation, Minister Maksut Shadayev said. However, he noted that everyone had 1.5 years to prepare for such a decision by the company.

“We find out how this is a confirmed fact. But globally, in general, the problem was clear, and we did not count on the fact that this could continue for a long time, ”Mr. Shadayev told reporters at the Digital Evolution forum (quote from Interfax).

The minister noted that everyone understood “what was going to happen” and many switched to Russian operating systems based on Linux. Answering the question whether there are equivalent domestic alternatives to Microsoft software, he said: “Yes. A definite answer”.

Microsoft technical support reported TelecomDaily agency notified Russian companies that it would stop renewing software licenses after September 30th. Active subscriptions will run until the end of the remaining term.

Microsoft stopped sales of new products in Russia in 2022 after the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine.
