The head of the IAEA called the restoration of reserve power supply at ZNPP a positive step

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi supported the restoration of backup power supply at the Zaporozhye NPP.

“Working in a very difficult environment, Zaporozhye NPP’s operating staff are doing their best to strengthen the fragile off-site power supply situation. The restoration of backup power was a positive step in this regard, even though the overall nuclear safety situation remains fragile,” Grossi said in a statement. He noted that the presence of a backup power supply provides the nuclear power plant with a buffer if the only operating power line is turned off.

The Director General of the IAEA the day before, on October 14, said that progress had been made in the negotiations on the establishment of a security zone at the Zaporozhye NPP. He did not provide details.

In early October, the nuclear power plant became federal property of Russia by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The plant will be managed by JSC Operating Organization of Zaporozhye NPP, its founder is Rosenergoatom, a subsidiary of Rosatom.
