Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Ahmad Asadzade in an interview “RIA News” said that Russian gas, within the framework of an agreement on swap supplies with Tehran, could also go to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, and southern Iran for export to the Persian Gulf countries.
“At the moment, the potential volume that we can receive through the northern borders of our country alone is about 50 million cubic meters of gas per day,” Mr. Asadzade said.
At the end of August, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Ouji announced agreement on swap supplies of Russian gas. October 9 he informed about concluding a deal with Russia for $44 billion. $40 billion will be used to build gas pipelines, $4 billion to develop fields.
Swap deliveries are deliveries under a substitution scheme. Used in case of impossibility of direct deliveries.
Iran and Russia agreed on close cooperation back in July after the meetings of the heads of the two states at the summit of the guarantor countries of the Astana Process for Facilitating the Syrian Settlement. Then Moscow and Tehran signed agreements on mutual settlements in national currencies and cooperation in the field of energy and transport.
