The government adopted resolution, according to which duty-free import of eggs will be introduced from January 1 to June 30, 2024. The document also obliges the Ministry of Agriculture to issue relevant documents that confirm the intended purpose of imported products.

According to the resolution, duty-free imports apply to goods under the EAEU HS code 0407 21 000 0 (eggs and egg products), the base import rate of which is 15%. The document specifies that the imported eggs are intended for use in food production and retail trade. The resolution also states that the document was adopted to implement the decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) on duty-free import of chicken eggs into Russia in the first half of 2024.

In November, retail prices for eggs increased sharply, and by December they became one of the most expensive products. According to Rosstat, in November eggs rose in price by 15.1%, since the beginning of the year – by 35.5%, in annual terms – by 40.3%. The FAS and the Prosecutor General’s Office initiated inspections on this issue, and the government initiated measures to stabilize prices. In particular, on December 23, the government adopted a resolution to abolish duties on imported frozen meat of domestic chickens in the amount of up to 140 thousand tons from January 1 to December 31 next year.
