The government has lifted the moratorium on inspections of stores selling vapes and hookahs until January 1, 2025. This was announced by the head of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy Artem Metelev.
“This will be followed by massive inspections of points of sale of vapes for compliance with the law. There are no more restrictions for supervisory authorities,” Mr. Metelev wrote in Telegram.
The decision was made following an appeal from four State Duma committees to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The appeal was signed by Artem Metelev himself, as well as the heads of three committees: on education – Olga Kazakova, on health protection – Badma Bashankaev and on industry and trade – Vladimir Gutenev.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin in January offered develop an initiative to ban the sale of vapes to minors. His idea supported deputies, Rospotrebnadzor, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Ministry of Finance spoke about the risks of growth in the illegal trade of electronic cigarettes if they are banned and losses for the federal budget. In April, President Vladimir Putin signed law restricting the sale of vapes.
