The government introduced a ban on the export of durum wheat from December 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024 to stabilize prices for durum wheat products. The authorities also established a quota for the export of grain from Russia in the amount of 24 million tons.
The decisions were made by the subcommittee on customs, tariff and non-tariff regulation, it is said in message government. The minutes of the meeting were approved by First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov.
The Ministry of Agriculture proposed introducing a temporary ban on the export of durum wheat from the country for six months. Together with the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture also initiated the establishment of quotas for the export of wheat, barley, corn and rye to countries that are not members of the EAEU. The measure will be in force from February 15 to June 30, 2024.
The subcommittee, as stated in the government report, approved tariff benefits for certain types of domestic chicken meat. Meat supplies in the amount of up to 160 thousand tons will be exempt from paying import customs duties in 2024. The decision is aimed at stabilizing prices in the domestic market by increasing supply.
From December 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, the government introduced a quota for the export of scrap of 600 thousand tons with an intra-quota duty of 5%, but not less than €15 per ton. The out-of-quota duty will remain at 5%, but not less than €290 per ton.
In August, the media wrote about a possible increase in bread prices due to rising prices for grain and flour. The Ministry of Agriculture then reported that Russia’s grain supply exceeds needs by 85%, and its prices are lower than last year. Chicken prices in 2023 set a historical high.
