The Golden Lion Award, the main award of the Venice Film Festival, went to the film by the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos “The Poor and Unfortunate.” The list of laureates was published on the film festival’s social networks.
The film “Evil Does Not Exist” by Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi received the “Silver Lion” – Grand Jury Prize. Italian director Mateo Garrone received the Silver Lion for Best Director (I Am Captain).
Best Actor was awarded to Peter Sarsgaard for his role in Memento, and Best Actress to Cailee Spaeny for Priscilla. The prize for best screenplay went to Pablo Larraín and Guillermo Calderon for the film “The Count,” directed by Mr. Larraín. The Special Jury Prize went to the film “Green Border” by Polish director Agnieszka Holland.
The 80th Venice Film Festival runs from 30 August to 9 September. Previously, director Liliana Cavani and actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai received the Golden Lion for their contribution to cinema. The jury was chaired by director Damien Chazelle.
