According to a survey conducted for the Salon SME, one in four French people has a second activity.
It is a movement that is gaining momentum. Now, more than a quarter of French people (26%) have a second professional activity in addition to their main job. They were only 16% in 2016, according to a survey conducted for the Salon SME, an event for creators and managers of small businesses.
“The health crisis has installed the telework for some of the employees. The reduction in transport time and managerial pressure, but also the development of digital tool practices and increased freedom have favored dual activity”, summarizes Alain Bosetti, manager of this show.

The vast majority (67%) of those affected work more “to earn more”. However, the gain in income generated by these complementary activities appears relatively modest for most of these dual-assets. 46% of respondents earn less than 300 euros per month from this second string to their bow.
Voluntary pluriactivity
3%, on the other hand, have an additional income of more than 3000 euros. The other motivations range from exploiting a hobby (29%) to testing an idea with a view to creating a business (7%), via preparing for a professional retraining (11%) .
96% of followers of pluriactivity ensure that it is a voluntary choice. A sign of the digitization of work, 38% of respondents find their customers on digital platforms and 23% thanks to digital marketing techniques.
