The former Volkswagen automobile plant in Kaluga will remain idle after February 29, the primary trade union organization ASM Volkswagen Group Rus LLC reported on VKontakte. The period of downtime is not given in the union’s message. Production at the plant has been suspended since March 2022.
“All employees will need to arrive at the plant on March 1, 2024 to familiarize themselves with the next period of downtime and the form of its organization,” says the message from ASM LLC Volkswagen Group Rus (quoted from “Interfax”).
Volkswagen decided to suspend production in Russia after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. In May 2023, the automaker sold its share in the Russian subsidiary of Volkswagen Group Rus LLC Art-Finance for €125 million. In June last year, the former subsidiary of Volkswagen in Russia was renamed at AGR Automotive Group. In January 2024, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov reportedthat car production at the former Volkswagen plant is planned to restart in the first half of 2024.
