Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that the first stage of Arctic LNG-2 has already been launched. This project creates the basis for the growth of cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route (NSR).

“In particular, the basis for the growth of cargo traffic along the NSR is created by the Arctic LNG-2 project, the first stage of which has already been launched,” Mr. Novak said at a meeting at the government coordination center as part of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” at VDNKh.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the transportation of transit cargo along the Northern Sea Route last year reached record levels of 2.1 million tons. The main transit cargo was oil, the supply of which was redirected from the Baltic ports, from the traditional route through the Suez Canal to the Northern Sea Route.

Arctic LNG-2 is a NOVATEK project for LNG production on the Gydan Peninsula. The capacity of the three Arctic LNG-2 lines is 19.8 million tons of LNG annually. The capacity of each line is 6.6 million tons per year.
