The expert told how the income of the self-employed will change

The freelance market in Russia is growing rapidly. If in 2020, according to a study by the international network of companies offering consulting and auditing services PwC, 14 million freelancers were registered in our country (about 20% of the economically active population of the country), now 15-17 million people have permanent and one-time freelance orders. More than 1.1 million people are registered as self-employed in Moscow alone, and this figure is growing every day. But is there enough room in the freelancing market for everyone? How will the increase in supply in the freelance market affect the income of the self-employed? What professions will be most in demand? This was told to Moskovskaya Pravda by Sergey Sukhostavets, Operations Director of the Rocket Work technology platform.

According to the expert, the high potential for growth in the number of self-employed will be supported by the business trend for staff hiring, as well as the desire of people, especially generation Y, who now fill the labor market, to maintain a balance between work and personal life.

The volume of the Russian freelancing market, according to PwC research, is also growing. In the same 2020, it amounted to $41 billion, last year it was already $47 billion, and in 2025, according to forecasts, it will reach $102 billion.

“Researchers from QIWI and the National Guild of Freelancers found that in 2022, the majority of self-employed managed to maintain not only earnings, but also the volume of the client base at the pre-February level,” said Sergey Sukhostavets. — This indicates sufficient stability and stability of the freelance market in the country.

At the same time, in the field of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), whose representatives are the main customers of freelance services, there is another increase in demand for cooperation with the self-employed.

“SMEs now have to reconsider their approach to resources, tighten their belts in some places and choose a more mobile and affordable outsourcing system, instead of classic hiring,” the expert explains. — So, according to the YouDo service, currently 52% of companies in Russia are already cooperating with the self-employed, while in 9 cases out of 10 this cooperation is of a “chronic” nature. And with a high probability, at least during the period of economic recovery, more and more companies will transfer part of their tasks and processes to the staff. This means that there will be more offers for freelancers.

However, such a balance of supply and demand, according to the expert, is unlikely to have a positive impact on the income of freelancers.

“It should be expected that there will be no significant increase in the size of fees, with a high probability, until the end of this year, the size of remuneration will remain at the same level, and the growth of the entire market will only provoke an increase in the number of players,” the expert says.

According to statistics, about half of freelancers today combine their main employment and part-time work. Their income as self-employed is in the range of 15 thousand rubles. Every fifth freelancer earns up to 30 thousand rubles, only 10% of the self-employed receive income above 50 thousand.

– Now, when both business and citizens are switching to a savings model of behavior, there will not be a significant increase here, – Sergey Sukhostavets believes. “However, in the “deficit” areas, the dynamics can be more than positive. In areas where demand will exceed supply, the increase in remuneration is quite real. So, the demand may be for representatives of the digital sphere, Internet marketers, programmers, designers and developers – businesses will turn to their services more often. Also, the demand for representatives of working professions can grow significantly: mechanics, electricians, car repair specialists – the focus in these areas on the service market will most likely flow from large suppliers to private specialists. This process is starting now and will continue next year.

By the way, it is likely that in 2023 the growth in the number of self-employed will accelerate. Now Russians of mature age are stopped from such a step, including the absence of a social package. But the situation may change as early as next year if the state system of voluntary insurance for the self-employed begins to operate. How informs “Kommersant” with reference to the Ministry of Labor, participants in this program will be able to receive monetary compensation in case of temporary disability. It is planned that the monthly insurance premium will be about 1200 rubles. Sick leave payments in the first year of deduction of contributions will vary from 13,000 to 22,000 rubles per month, and then they can grow to 19,000 – 32,400 rubles.
