Vera Yurova, Deputy Head of the European Commission for Values ​​and Transparency, said that all content created on the Internet using artificial intelligence (AI) must be labeled.

“We want the platforms to create such markings that would allow the average, most inattentive user to immediately see that this was done by a robot. Platforms should develop a technology for identifying neural network products and labeling content based on it, ”she said during a press conference in Brussels, a video of the event was published on the official’s Twitter page.

According to her, the European Commission encourages companies involved in the development of artificial intelligence to create tools that will distinguish human-generated content from AI-created content. Ms. Yurova also publicly called for the creation of mechanisms to prevent the malicious use of such neural network applications, such as chatbots or picture generating systems.

New labeling requirements for AI-generated content could be included in a voluntary digital code of conduct signed by major platforms back in 2018. It is assumed that these norms may become mandatory for all platforms, social networks and content producers by 2024.

According to publication sources Politico, these measures are taken to reduce the risk of using deep fake technology for any manipulation. The EC fears that attackers using deep fake technology can seriously interfere in the lives of people, including politicians. “Now this content is mostly a game, but tomorrow you can see a fake pornographic video with a presidential candidate,” Politico interlocutors in the European Commission said. They clarified that currently the vast majority of European states support the introduction of information labeling created with the participation of AI.
