59-year-old Vytautas Taranda, brother and assistant of the famous dancer, director of the Imperial Russian Ballet Gediminas Taranda, died on Monday afternoon in his apartment on Sadovo-Sukharevskaya Street. Presumably, the man’s cause of death was a heart attack, but it seemed that he felt his end.
As MK learned, the last days have been difficult both for Vytautas himself and for his relatives. He was depressed, periodically fought despondency with the help of strong drinks, and in this state fell from time to time. This may have explained the presence of bruises on the body that criminologists discovered when examining the corpse. On the afternoon of March 18, the man suddenly began to rage in his room, but quickly calmed down. The wife decided that he had fallen asleep, but after a while she discovered that Vytautas was not breathing. Doctors pronounced him dead. A note was found in the office: “I ask you not to blame anyone for my death. 03/18/2024. Taranda.” The presence of the letter prompted the police to think about suicide, but this version was not confirmed. Perhaps the man understood that he was dying, and therefore left such a message.
The younger brother of the famous dancer started having heart problems a long time ago. He himself once said that he almost died in Rostov on tour – what saved him was that there were doctors behind the scenes. In addition, on January 2 of this year, Vytautas became ill in the very apartment where he eventually died. But then he was quickly brought to his senses; the man even refused to go to the hospital.
Vytautas Taranda graduated from the choreographic school, then worked for some time at the Bolshoi Theater, and later got a job as an assistant to his brother, who organized the Imperial Russian Ballet. He gained success in the teaching field and was awarded the Order of Diaghilev for his contribution to art. Everyone who knew Vytautas speaks of him as a kind and gentle person. And he himself said more than once in interviews that he did not have his brother’s toughness. Perhaps these qualities played a fatal role in the character of Taranda Jr.
