The Czech Republic significantly increased purchases of Russian gas in January – Kommersant

The Czech Republic increased gas imports from Russia in January 2024, its supplies are made through the territory of Slovakia, reports the Czech publication Novinky.cz. According to information from the Czech gas operator NET4GAS, gas supplies from the Russian Federation in January amounted to 62% of the total volume of this type of energy raw material supplied to the republic.
According to Novinky.cz, large-scale gas supplies from the Russian Federation to the Czech Republic resumed at the end of 2023. Before this – from January to October last year – there were almost no supplies of Russian gas; it accounted for only 2% of the volume of energy fuel supplied to the country. Since November, the situation has changed, after which purchases of Russian gas through Slovakia have intensified.
At the same time, in 2023, the Czech authorities reported about “overcoming dependence on Russian gas” and stated that the country now receives most of its fuel from Norway.
