The Smolninsky District Court in St. Petersburg issued a fine of 1 million rubles. for showing films with non-traditional sexual relations on the Wink online video service (part 2 of article 6.21.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). Punishment under this article for legal entities provides for a fine of up to 4 million rubles. or administrative suspension of activities for up to 90 days.
In particular, the propaganda of same-sex relationships among minors was seen in the film “Like a Live”, which is posted on the streaming platform marked “16+”. The case file states that the painting contains a scene of “men kissing in a sexual context.”
During the inspection of the site, regulators found three other films falling under this offense: “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason”, “Curse of Chucky” and “The Barber of England”.
Previously, Wink owned Rostelecom, but since March 1, the shares in the online service have been distributed differently. Roskomnadzor, having checked the information, came to the conclusion that the provider is only responsible for LGBT propaganda in one film – “Like a Live”.
On June 15 at the SPIEF, Rostelecom and the National Media Group announced the merger of more.tv and Wink video services under the latter’s brand. The parties will set up a joint venture for this, in which Rostelecom will have a 70% share and NMG a 30%.
