The Council of State validates the controversial expulsion of Hassan Iquioussen

The administrative court had ruled out anti-Semitism, considering that Mr. Iquioussen had apologized and had not repeated such remarks since 2014. Contrary to the administrative court, the Council of State considered above all that in the balance between State security and the fundamental right to a normal private and family life, the expulsion of Mr. Iquioussen, of Moroccan nationality but born in France and father of five French children, was not “disproportionate”, his children being adults and his Moroccan wife, although residing in all regularity on French soil. Hassan Iquioussen, 58, explained that he was pushed to renounce French nationality before his majority under pressure from his father, before trying to recover it twice, without success.

Gérald Darmanin did not hesitate to savor immediately, on Twitter, “a great victory for the Republic”before making a statement to the press on the steps of his ministry, claiming in particular to have asked “from this afternoon” to the prefects of him “provide expulsion options” foreign people holding “hate speech”and “whose laws did not until now allow them to be expelled”. Hassan Iquioussen’s lawyer, Me Lucie Simon, for her part deplored a “Weakened rule of law” and “an alarming context of pressure from the executive on the judiciary”.
