DECRYPTAGE – Devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic, “travel retail” is regaining color but the absence of the Chinese is felt.

This summer, travelers have not been content to hurry through airports to fly to their vacation spot. They have also found their way back to shops and duty free. Something to boost the morale of airport managers and their partners in travel retailwhose income had almost disappeared during the periods of confinement.

Commercial revenues from rents from shops, bars, restaurants, advertising space and commissions on their sales are far from symbolic. At Groupe ADP, they brought in 625 million euros in the first half, out of an overall turnover of 2 billion euros. This is twice as much as last year (289 million euros in the first half of 2021) and almost as much as before the pandemic (647 million in the first half of 2019).
