The government is suspending the Northern Latitudinal Railway (NLRT) project in Yamal in favor of two other projects, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin told reporters on the sidelines of the Transport Week 2022 forum. He noted that the expensive (almost 300 billion rubles— “b”) the SSH project has a future and will be returned to it. Now the government is concentrating on the projects of the Eastern test site and the Murmansk railway junction.
“Northern latitudinal passage – we have suspended this project for the time being,” the Deputy Prime Minister answered the relevant question (quote from Interfax). Now all forces are concentrated on the eastern direction, the construction of the Eastern test site, and the work on the construction of the Murmansk railway junction is also intensifying, said Marat Khusnullin.
“After we launch our two main directions, taking into account the changed logistics, we will return once again to the Northern Latitudinal Railway. It is a rather expensive project, but I believe that it certainly has a development prospect,” Mr. Khusnullin noted.
SSHH – creation project in the Arctic zone of the railway corridor, which will be able to pass 23.9 million tons of cargo per year. For this, the infrastructure of the Northern and Sverdlovsk railways must be developed and a link between them 700 km long from Salekhard to Nadym with a bridge across the Ob must be built. The total cost of the project is 292.3 billion rubles. The construction of the SSH was planned to be carried out from 2018 to 2022.
At the end of March, it was reported that due to the deteriorating economic situation, the government decided to postpone SHH project, and redirect budget loans to other infrastructure. However, already in mid-April, President Vladimir Putin instructed to return to the construction project of the secondary school.
At the beginning of October, Gazprom concluded contract for the construction of its part of the SSH.
