The construction of a high-speed railway line (HSR) between Moscow and St. Petersburg is planned to be completed in 2028, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Valentin Ivanov announced this, transmits TASS.
“We are focusing on the completion and launch of traffic in 2028,” he said on the sidelines of the PRO//Motion.Expo International Railway Salon.
August 17 Russian President Vladimir Putin declaredthat the moment has come for the implementation of the Moscow-Petersburg High-Speed Line project. Putin also promised to discuss the construction of the high-speed line from Moscow to Minsk with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. He also offered work out the issue of creating a high-speed railway from Moscow to Adler, Donetsk and Lugansk.
Putin commissioned the design of a high-speed line from Moscow to St. Petersburg in the spring of 2019. The construction project was approved in 2021. Thanks to the new highway between Moscow and St. Petersburg, travel time will be reduced from 4 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes. The length of the HSR will be 679 km. The cost of the project is estimated at 1.7 trillion rubles, up to 468 billion rubles will be allocated from the NWF.
