The Central Bank will publish financial indicators of banks in incomplete form

The Central Bank resumed the disclosure of financial statements of credit institutions. However, they are available with a number of significant exceptions relating, in particular, to currency, securities, details of credit and deposit accounts, including a breakdown into resident and non-resident accounts. The financial statements of PSB, SMP-bank and RRDB are even more sparingly disclosed. The Central Bank hid all information sensitive to sanctions risks. However, Kommersant was able to estimate the profit of the banking sector, which is growing steadily.

The Bank of Russia resumed publishing regular reporting credit organizations. As of June 1, the turnover sheet (form 101), capital calculation (form 123) and mandatory ratios of banks (form 135) were presented in a condensed form. At the same time, for fairly large credit institutions – PSB, SMP Bank acquired by it, RRDB – the reporting turned out to be even more limited, for Mosoblbank it was not published at all. The previous time, bank statements were disclosed in a much more complete form as of February 1, 2022. The suspension of disclosure at the Bank of Russia was explained by sanctions risks.

But even now, protecting banks and their counterparties from sanctions pressure, regulator excluded “sensitive information” from reporting. As an operational study shows, this affected the currency of the accounts, as well as other details – in terms of their belonging, including to non-residents, terms, etc.

According to the reporting, it is impossible to trace the currency structure of bank operations, assess the distribution of assets and liabilities by maturity, determine the composition of the securities portfolio, and also analyze the turnover on individual accounts, notes banking expert Alexei Nechaev: “For analysis, the reporting form is extremely inconvenient and of little use.” In terms of capital structure, the 808 report published for the first quarter of 2023 is much more informative, he adds, while the bank’s standards are also present in the published report (form 813), so little has been added here.

At the same time, on the basis of the turnover sheet, it is already possible to evaluate the interim financial results of each credit institution.

So, according to Kommersant’s calculations, the top ten largest in terms of net profit for the five months of 2023 included Sberbank (589 billion rubles, the only bank that discloses monthly reports), VTB (114 billion rubles), GPB (105 billion rubles .), Raiffeisenbank (45 billion rubles), Sovcombank (almost 43 billion rubles), Alfa-Bank (about 42 billion rubles), FC Otkritie (26.5 billion rubles), Unicredit Bank (about 22 billion rubles), Bank Saint Petersburg (almost 20 billion rubles) and RSHB (19 billion rubles). And in general, there is a positive trend in profit compared to the first quarter.

The results for the year in the banking sector will be quite good, the first half of the year shows that banks have optimistic forecasts, said Roman Kenigsberg, Head of the FBK Internal Audit and Risk Management Department. At the same time, it should be taken into account that each bank has its own capital reserve, its own degree of efficiency in organizing the process, margin, etc. The income of banks, the expert clarifies, will depend on the pace of lending, moreover, “expenses traditionally grow by the end of the year” .
