The Central Bank showed updated banknotes of 1000 and 5000 rubles – Kommersant

The Central Bank (CB) from today, October 16, enters updated banknotes in denominations of 1000 and 5000 rubles are put into circulation. Both have retained their color palette: 1000 rubles is made in turquoise, 5000 rubles in red.

The thousand-ruble banknote is dedicated to Nizhny Novgorod and the Volga Federal District. On the front side is the Nikolskaya Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, on the reverse side is the Museum of the History of Statehood of the Tatar People and the Republic of Tatarstan in Kazan, the Syuyumbike Tower on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin, the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography in Ufa.

The five thousandth banknote is dedicated to Yekaterinburg and the Ural Federal District. On its front side there is a stela “Europe-Asia”, on the back there is a monument “The Tale of the Urals” in Chelyabinsk, as well as a stele “66-parallel” (Arctic Circle) in Salekhard. The Central Bank clarified that the updated banknotes “are made in a modern design and have a reinforced security complex.”

In 2017, updated 200 and 2000 ruble banknotes were introduced into circulation. Regulator in spring 2021 stated about plans to modernize banknotes in denominations of 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles. Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Sergei Belov saidthat an improved security system for banknotes will help avoid counterfeiting. In June the Central Bank presented updated hundred-ruble bill.
