Bank of Russia specialists do not see technological risks in the fact that Russian banks use Telegram channels to provide services to clients. According to the Chairman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, the existing risks can be reduced with the help of anti-fraud mechanisms.
“As for the provision of services through Telegram channels by banks, our specialists analyzed that there are no additional technological risks from using such channels. But we see that it is Telegram channels that are often used as a means of communication by scammers,” said Ms. Nabiullina (quoted by TASS).
On February 14, VTB reported that the number of scammers in messengers per year has grown five times. Many Russian banks began to provide services via Telegram due to the blocking of their applications in the AppStore and Google Play following the imposition of Western sanctions.
In January, Roskomnadzor acknowledged Telegram is a foreign messenger that is not subject to integration with banks. The law, among other things, does not allow sending auxiliary banking messages via the messenger.
